Women In Music Pt. III - HAIM

This album is a rollercoaster of love loss and moving on. Every song is super relatable whether it be to a relationship or your own personal journey. Hard-hitting guitar riffs and strong drums throughout, it's deeply personal lyrically and makes you want to dance. What's not to love!

Los Angeles
"On these days, these days, I can't win"

Sometimes you reach a point in your life where you can no longer see a plan in front of you, "These days, I can't see no visions". It seems like everything is against you and you need change. It can be scary to leave your hometown but sometimes that's what's needed to kick-start your life back into action. However some people may say, there's no place like home. It makes for a tough decision, "Should I stay or should I go". But don't forget, no matter where you are, you're always yourself.

Up From A Dream
"Are we already up from the dream? Or do we need to wake up again?"

Pure 70s magic. You can't not want to have a little boogie listening to this. The solid bassline just had you toe-tapping. We all have dreams we wish we could go back into, sometimes with that one person we hope was actually with us. We can be completely different people in a dream, most of the time for the better. You wake up, "And you have changed in the blink of an eye".

Don't Wanna
"Left me low with my high heels in the parking lot"

This is a classic HAIM song. Sometime you just don't wanna give up on a relationship. You fight, leave each other in parking lots, even at times, you may wake up in stranger's beds. But I just don't wanna give up yet, maybe there's some fixing this. My mind's about to change; I just need to let it, give it time. Even after years, talking face to face can still make you nervous especially after an argument.

3am
"All I keep thinking is, "Have I lost my mind?""

Booty calls. We all have that person, that we tell ourselves it'll be the last time yet we still end up there. Often alcohol is involved in this decision-making process. It's a self destructive loop, but sometimes you just need it. What’s better than a bit of casual sex even if it’s at 3am. "You and I don't have to meet. But it's fun to think we could", why not have a little bit of fun in this situation. The voicemail at the beginning and end truly representative of a man's persistence, *Chefs Kiss*.

Leaning on you
"It takes all that I got, Not to fuck this up"

Fleetwood Mac who? Even when you try your hardest you still need support. I know from personal experience that I can easily mess things up, so I definitely need someone to lean on. Just that reassurance that no matter what I do I'm not alone. Finding that person that accepts your flaws and uplifts you is truly a special thing. Also that folk-rock pop instrumental goodness in the middle, I'm drooling.

Man from the magazine
"You don't know how it feels, you expect me to deal with it"

I can not talk about this song as it's the very core of the album's title. Women in music have it fucking tough. Men, we don't understand what it's like to be a woman. We've all seen the faces our favourite male musicians make when they’re really going for it while playing. And that's it they're just really into it. So why does someone think it's acceptable to ask a female musician if she makes the same faces in bed, like fuck off! Also, underestimating women is not okay! Handing a woman that walks into your shop a beginner guitar is just not cool, if only you knew who was stood in front of you. "I don't want to hear It is what it is", we need to make changes and no longer stand for the status quo.
